FMCSA Windshield Compliance

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration defines disqualifying windshield damage under 49 CFR 393.60 as any crack, discoloration, or vision-impairing object in the critical viewing area of the windshield. The critical viewing area is defined as the portion of the windshield swept by the windshield wipers. A crack of any length within this area is a disqualifying condition under federal regulations.

Door glass failure is also common from the window regulator mechanism binding or failing and causing the glass to crack inside the door channel.
