ADAS Calibration

Serving the Greater Middle, TN Area

We perform ADAS calibration across the greater Middle, TN area for all vehicles equipped with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems after windshield replacement. If your vehicle was manufactured after 2018 there is a very good chance it has a forward-facing camera mounted to the windshield that powers critical safety systems — and that camera requires recalibration every time the windshield is replaced. We perform ADAS calibration in the same appointment as your windshield replacement so every safety system is restored and verified before we leave your location.

What Is ADAS and Why Does It Matter

ADAS is the collective term for the camera-based and sensor-based safety systems built into modern vehicles. These systems use a forward-facing digital camera mounted directly to the windshield glass behind the rearview mirror to capture a continuous video feed of the road ahead. That feed is processed in real time by the vehicle's onboard computer to detect lane markings, vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists, and road signs.

The safety systems that depend on this camera include:

Every one of these systems depends on the windshield camera being positioned at the exact angle and field of view specified by the vehicle manufacturer. A deviation of even a few degrees from the correct camera alignment produces detection errors across all of these systems simultaneously.

Why Windshield Replacement Requires Recalibration

Removing the windshield for replacement requires physically detaching the ADAS camera from the glass. Even when the camera is reattached to the new windshield in the same position, microscopic differences in glass curvature, mounting bracket position, and installation angle are enough to throw the camera's calibration off. The vehicle's safety systems have no way to detect or correct this misalignment on their own — they simply operate with reduced accuracy until a proper recalibration is performed.

Driving with an uncalibrated ADAS camera after windshield replacement is not a minor issue. An uncalibrated lane departure system produces false alerts or misses actual lane departures. An uncalibrated automatic emergency braking system may apply braking at incorrect distances or fail to detect a collision hazard at all. These are not warning lights on a dashboard — they are active safety interventions that affect how your vehicle behaves on the road.

Static vs Dynamic Calibration

ADAS calibration is performed using 2 methods depending on the vehicle manufacturer's requirements.

Static calibration is performed with the vehicle stationary using manufacturer-specific target boards positioned at precise distances and angles in front of the vehicle. The calibration software reads the camera feed, compares it against the target board position, and adjusts the camera parameters until the alignment is within manufacturer specification.

Dynamic calibration is performed by driving the vehicle at a specified speed on a road with clear lane markings while the calibration software monitors the camera feed and adjusts parameters in real time.

Some vehicles require both static and dynamic calibration to complete the full recalibration process. We determine the correct method for your vehicle before beginning and complete all required steps before returning the vehicle to you.

What to Expect From Us

We perform ADAS calibration as part of every windshield replacement on equipped vehicles. When you book a windshield replacement with us, we confirm whether your vehicle requires ADAS recalibration, source the correct calibration targets and software for your vehicle manufacturer, and complete the full calibration process on-site before we leave.

You receive a vehicle with a properly installed windshield and a fully recalibrated safety system. Not just a new piece of glass.
