OEM vs Aftermarket Windshield Glass

One of the most common questions we get is whether OEM or aftermarket glass is the right choice. OEM glass is manufactured by the same supplier that produced your vehicle's original windshield and matches the exact specifications of the factory installation. Aftermarket glass is manufactured to meet or exceed OEM standards and fits the same application at a lower cost.

For most drivers, high-quality OEM-equivalent aftermarket glass is the practical choice. For vehicles with heated windshields, heads-up display systems, or acoustic glass, OEM-specification glass is required to preserve those features. We source both and will recommend the right option for your specific vehicle.

Does Your Vehicle Require ADAS Recalibration?

Most vehicles manufactured after 2018 are equipped with a forward-facing camera mounted directly to the windshield that powers safety systems including lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking, and forward collision detection. Removing the windshield for replacement requires detaching this camera, which disrupts its calibration alignment. We perform ADAS recalibration in the same appointment as your windshield replacement so every safety system is functioning correctly before we leave.

What to Expect After Replacement

Safe drive-away time after windshield replacement is a minimum of 1 hour based on the cure time of DOT-compliant urethane adhesive. We will let you know exactly when your vehicle is ready and what to avoid in the first 24 hours to allow the adhesive to reach full bond strength. These include:

Avoid car washes for 24 hours after installation
Leave a window cracked slightly for the first hour to equalize cabin pressure
Do not remove any tape or retention strips placed on the windshield trim
Avoid high-pressure water directly on the windshield edges for 24 hours
Drive normally after the 1-hour cure period — no special handling required

When Windshield Replacement Is Required

Not all windshield damage qualifies for repair. Replacement is required when any of the following conditions apply:

The crack is longer than 150mm
The damage is located within the driver's primary line of sight
The chip or crack originates at the windshield edge
The inner glass layer is compromised
The windshield is shattered or has multiple damage points
The damage has been contaminated by moisture or debris over time
The existing windshield was previously repaired in the same location
